NOFREEMUSIC

Industry: Music/Curation

The Origin

The Origin

NoFreeMusic (NFM) in short is the byproduct of my passion for music curation. I often found and find myself being on aux. This highly coveted position was bestowed upon me at a young age due to being the last one to receive my driver’s license and having access to explicit music. After being drowned in country music at a young age (thanks, Sarla), I found my life raft in rap, electronic, and various other genres. I randomly have this memory of my listening to the song Viva La Vida on repeat at a very young age, I think this euphoric jam session, combined with car rides driven by The Bridge on Sirius XM, instilled a deep love of music within me. Over the years this music passion would expand into genre’s like lofi, trap, UK rap, jazz, folk, and a culturally diverse amount of house. After a long-winded relationship with Apple Music, I discovered Soundiiz, which was the chariot I rode to Spotify. Once I had reestablished my throne I began creating playlists based on fictional places that I believe your brain goes when listening to one of said playlists. This originally started out as a joke, but after a few handfuls of zkittles, I began writing little synopsizes for each playlist. I essentially began branding my playlists, this would attract a few laughs and a handful of raised eyebrows. Some of the most popular playlists in my arsenal are The Temple (My personal favorite), The Compound, and The Lab. My ultimate goal with NFM is to create a community that exposes you, the listener to new noises that make your ears ring endlessly.

THE ART

THE ART

The Art sourced for the playlist covers is arguably the most important part of any well-curated playlist.

-

All cover art sourced for NFM must be in line with the overall pixel art aesthetic. Sourcing the art takes a long time but, you know once you find the perfect match, it truly orchestrates the symphony.
